Nicholas Ridley - Chairman

Lauretta Ridley - Head of Fundraising

In 1993 Nicholas was appointed Chairman of Council in Lincolnshire of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. In 2004 he was appointed a Trustee of the St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem.

Lauretta, wife of Nicholas, has also been involved with The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in Lincolnshire working as a fundraiser. She was later appointed Chairperson of The Ladies' Guild of The St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem and raised considerable sums through dinners and concerts.


The Rt. Hon the Lord Garnier QC

Lord Edward Garnier of Harborough, Leicestershire, made a Baron in June 2018, knighted 2012 was called to the Bar in 1976 and practiced as a defamation and media law specialist from Chambers at 1 Brick Court in the Temple, London, until his appointment as HM Solicitor General in May 2010. He became a Queen's Counsel in 1995, a Crown Court Recorder in 1998 and a Bencher of the Middle Temple in 2001. He has now returned to practice at Brick Court.

The Reverend Dr Robert Beaken - Honorary Chaplain

Alistair is currently Chief Executive of The UK Flagship, a charity focused on delivering education and life skills to disabled and disadvantaged young people in the UK and Commonwealth.Prior to this role he was Private Secretary to TRH The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. He was previously a Governance and Rule of Law advisor for HM Government and has extensive experience of development programs in Africa and Asia, primarily in conflict and post-conflict environments. He has also been Chairman of the Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund, and a Trustee for the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group.

Robert is Parish Priest of Great and Little Barfield in North Essex and is the author of several books. He is County Chaplain for Essex of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.

Professor David Spalton - Ophthalmic Surgeon

Geoffrey Woodruff - Ophthalmic Surgeon

David is Emeritus Clinical Ophthalmic Director at St Thomas’s Hospital, and Professor of Ophthalmology, King’s College, London, and an Honorary Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. He is currently President of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, a Trustee of Fight for Sight and  is internationally renowned for his research on intra ocular lens design.

Geoffrey, Emeritus Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Leicester Royal Infirmary, has been lead clinician in Pediatrics Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Ophthalmic Training Committee.  

Richard Jackson - Stockbroker and Financial Advisor

Richard followed his grandfather and father into stockbroking and advises the Ridley Eye Foundation and other charities in the investment of financial assets, as well as a number of City of London Livery Companies.

Donald J. Munro - Emeritus Chairman and Managing Director of Rayners Intra-ocular Lenses

Donald J. Munro is Chairman Emeritus of Rayner Intra ocular Lenses Limited, the manufacture of the first Intra ocular lens (IOL) .  He is currently Business Development Director for the The David J Apple International Laboratory for Ocular Pathology.

Sarah, a Chartered Management Accountant, has many years experience in various industries and non-profit making organisations.  She has worked with Nicholas since 2004, and from 2012 has been involved with administrative tasks for the Charity.

Gerd is Professor and Chairman at the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and is Head of the David J Apple Center for Vision Research which includes the David J Apple Laboratory for Ocular Pathology in Heidelberg. His key professional interests include cataract and intraocular lens surgery, IOL-biomaterial laboratory research, ocular pathology, minimal invasive glaucoma surgery, glaucoma implants and stents and corneal surgery.
